2006’ National Development Forum on Strong Towns was held yesterday in Hangzhou. The National Statistics Bureau released the top 20 list of the 2nd nationwide top 1000 towns on comprehensive development level. Three economically strong towns of Shaoxing were listed.
The three strong towns are Yangxunqiao Town of Shaoxing County, Datang Town of Zhuji City, and Diankou Town of Zhuji City, ranking the 8th, 12th and 18th on the list. It’s learned that there are 5 listed towns of Zhejiang Province, and Yangxunqiao Town ranked the 2nd in Zhejiang Province.
Beginning in 2003, the appraisal of top 1000 towns is held every two years. Nearly 30 indexes such as urban development level, living environment and development potential are involved. Compared to the first appraisal, the number and quality of listed towns of Shaoxing have been remarkably improved. In 2003, Yangxunqiao Town was the only lsited one of Shaoxing, ranking the 18th.
Insiders deemed that the industrial predominance brought by regional featured block economy cluster is the main momentum for these towns to accelerate development and achieve remarkable accomplishments. For example, textile, dying, construction materials, and leather machines of Yangxunqiao Town, socks of Datang Town, and hardware of Diankou Town have become the main national production bases.
