Four thousand Chinese people paid tribute to the Mausoleum of Yu the Great

2007’ Public Sacrifice Service for the Mausoleum of Yu the Great sponsored by the State Ministry of Culture and Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government and undertaken by Shaoxing Municipal People’s Government was ceremoniously held this morning at downtown Sacrifice Square of the Mausoleum of Yu the Great. It’s the first State-Level Sacrifice Service for the Mausoleum of Yu the Great since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and also the first Sacrifice Service after the Sacrifice Service for the Mausoleum of Yu the Great has become a State-Level Intangible Cultural Heritage. The media including CCTV International Channel, Xinhua Net, Zhejiang Online and ZJOL live broadcasted the Sacrifice Service.
 
Luo Haocai, Vice President of the National Political Consultative Conference, Chen Xiaoguang, Vice Minister of Culture, Shao Huaze, Member of the Standing Committee of the National Political Consultative Conference, Liu Feng, Vice Director of the Culture and History Committee of the National Political Consultative Conference and former President of Zhejiang Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Xu Zhichun, Vice Director of the Standing Committee of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Congress, Sheng Changli and Mao Linsheng, Vice Governors of Zhejiang, Tan Zhigang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Vice Chairperson of Chinese Literature Association, Zhang Shiping, Member of the Secretariat of Chinese Women’s Federation, Liang Pingbo, Executive Vice President of Zhejiang Provincial Political Consultative Conference, Jing Zhengshu, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Group and Vice Minister of Water Resources, Tang Shubei, former Executive Director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council and Executive Vice Chairperson of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits, Li Minglin, President of World Chinese Union General, Wang Laiyou, former Commander of East Sea Fleet, Yang Haiqing, Vice President of Sichuan Provincial Political Consultative Conferenc, Chen Ziyuan, Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, and Wang Yongchang, Party Secretary of Shaoxing, attended the Pubic Sacrifice Service, and Wang Yongchang assumed the role of Chief Worshiper.
 
Nearly one hundred persons including relevant State, Provincial and Municipal Leaders and Leaders from outside Zhejiang and representatives of Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan guests assumed the roles of main worshiper, thirteen squads offered worship to the Mausoleum of Yu the Great, and total number of the people on the spot hit about four thousand.
 
At 9:50 am, Zhang Jinru, Deputy Party Secretary and Mayor of Shaoxing, declared the start of the Sacrifice Service, then Chief Worshiper entered the scene and got in position. Later all worshipers stood seriously and silently, fired guns and paid tributes. Cao Qiyong, Honorable President of Zhejiang Fellows Union Federation in Hong Kong, Gao Yueming, President of Shaoxing Fellows Federation in Hong Kong, and Lin Xiaoyun, Vice President of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai Fellows Federation in Macao, burned incense, then Zhang Zhichu, Vice Preident of World Chinese Union General, Huang Laiyi, Director of the Management Office of Taiwan Yu Emperor Palace, Xia Hanrong, Chairperson of Xia’s Family Association of Taibei City, and Shi Maoli, the 143rd-generation great grandson of Yu the Great, burned incense. Later the drums and the bell were knocked, the melody was played, the wine was given, and four representatives of main Worshipers Luo Haocai, Chen Xiaoguang, Mao Linsheng and Wang Yongchang ascended to the altar to give wine, and other main worshipers gave wine.
 
Mao Linsheng, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, trusted by Lu Zushan, Governor of Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government, read elegiac address earnestly, all people Bowed to the Mausoleum of Yu the Great triple times, and Song of Yu the Great was singed, and sacred dance was played, and rites were concluded. All people kneeled to the Statue of Yu the Great, gongs & drums were knocked, and colorful fires were burned.
 
After concluding rites, all worshipers paid homage at the Mausoleum of Yu the Great in front of the Stele Pavilion, including standing seriously and silently, giving flower baskets, paying respect to the Mausoleum of Yu the Great, and compassing the Mausoleum of Yu the Great.
