Sino-Japan calligraphers signed Orchid Pavilion Joint Note
Sixteen days before the opening of this year’s Orchid Pavilion Calligraphy Festival, The Mission of Japanese Shizuoka City Calligraphy Federation to China totaling 115 members visited Shaoxing yesterday, and held a grand calligraphy gathering with calligraphers of Shaoxing Orchid Pavilion Calligraphy and Painting College. The both sides signed an Orchid Pavilion Joint Note later.

Founded in 1947, Japanese Shizuoka City Calligraphy Federation is a comparatively influential calligraphy group in Japan, who particularly idolizes Wang Xizhi. Mr. Sakurai, Chairperson of Shizuoka City Calligraphy Federation, expressed last night on the calligraphy banquet, “China is a nation of calligraphy, Shaoxing is the hometown of Wang Xizhi, where is also our dream land. Just imaging the feast of floating wine cups along the winding water would make us excited.” This year is the 60th anniversary of the founding of Shizuoka City Calligraphy Federation, for which, the Federation organized the visit particularly.

When arriving in Shaoxing yesterday, Japanese calligraphers and over fifty calligraphers of Shaoxing Orchid Pavilion Calligraphy and Painting College jointly held a writing meeting firstly, and thensigned an Orchid Pavilion Joint Note. In the Joint Note, it’s said that ten thousand words of soul can be written on four-feet-long rice paper to convey human pursuit of civilization by communication and one thousand years’ historic chronicles can be written by two nations’ calligraphers to promote folk exchange by cooperation.” Three cooperation matters were also agreed in Orchid Pavilion Joint Note, including holding calligraphy writing meeting, jointly staging calligraphy exhibition, and jointly weaving topic collection of calligraphy. Calligraphy art has become a link of people-to-people friendly exchanges between the two nations.
