Starting from Jan. 21, a mass of cold air that moves southward will bring sleet and snow across Zhejiang Province. This rainfall (snowfall) will last well into the New Year’s Eve.

In response to the disastrous weather, Zhejiang Provincial Government held a video teleconference yesterday afternoon to discuss measures to tackle the freezing rain and snow in the Province.

Governor Xia Baolong attended the conference. He said that we should not only have a wonderful Spring Festival but also prevent against disasters. He also proposed “five guarantees”, namely, guaranteeing smooth traffic, guaranteeing supply of water, power and gas, guaranteeing work safety, guaranteeing material supply during the Spring Festival, and guaranteeing the livelihood of the needy.

According to the meteorological department, the rain and snow front is expected to first reach the northwestern area of Zhejiang tomorrow evening. The snowfall will spread to a larger area and intensify on Jan. 21 and 22, with moderate to heavy snow in most of the areas of Zhejiang and heavy snow to blizzard in some areas, especially in the mountain areas.

The rainfall and snowfall will basically come to an end by the evening of Jan. 22 to Jan. 23.
