Xia Baolong, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhejiang Provincial Committee and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People’s Congress, met with Epeli Nailatikau, President of the Republic of Fiji, and his delegation in Hangzhou on the afternoon of August 14.

President Nailatikau has made a special trip to China for the presence at the second Summer Youth Olympic Games, and paid a special visit to Zhejiang before the opening ceremony.

Xia Baolong extended welcome to President Nailatikau and his delegation, and briefly introduced to them the situations of Zhejiang. Xia said that the physical distance does not pose barriers to knowing and being close to friends. Far apart as Zhejiang and Fiji are in distance, we have maintained amity long since. The two parties have tremendous potential for cooperation in various fields, including agriculture, forestry and fishery, marine economy, mineral exploitation, infrastructure construction, tourism, culture and education, and will hopefully further enhance contact and cooperation to promote common development and achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.

President Nailatikau expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of Zhejiang Province, his admiration for the great achievement that Zhejiang had made in economic and social development, and his hope that the two parties will cooperate in many more fields in the future.
