The Ministry of Education has recently announced Top 50 Universities for the number of invention patents granted in 2015 and Top 50 Universities for the number of valid patents by the end of 2015. Data show that Zhejiang University ranks first and second in the above two categories respectively.
Zhejiang University, Harbin Institute of Technology and Southeast University were granted 1,865, 1,454 and 1,453 patents respectively in 2015 as the top three. Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University and Shanghai Jiaotong University are the top three in the latter category, and Zhejiang University of Technology ranks tenth.
In recent years, Zhejiang University has been leading China in the number of patent applications as well as granted patents. By the end of 2015, Zhejiang University had owned a total of more than 7,000 valid invention patents.
