It is reported that a symposium between Taipei Cross-Strait Wu and Yue Cultural Research and Development Exchange Association and Shaoxing Yue Cultural Research Society was held in Shaoxing on the morning of December 11th. 23 cross-strait experts and scholars had a dialogue on retaining Yue Culture and discussed how to promote cross-strait cultural exchange and jointly carry forward Chinese culture.

“Taiwan and the mainland are linked by blood, just like brothers. Yue Culture is deeply embedded in our hearts. The culture is dynamic. It is Chinese culture and our common spiritual wealth.” Bian Yuyuan, chairman of Taipei Cross-Strait Wu and Yue Cultural Research and Development Exchange Association made a moving speech at the symposium. 15 representatives from culture, education and business circles of Taiwan hope to have an insight into Yue Culture through this symposium, and promote cross-strait cultural exchange so as to deepen brotherhood.

Lu Xitang, president of Shaoxing Yue Cultural Research Society, said that Yue Culture is an excellent regional culture in China, and that the study of Yue Culture is an academic career that gets rid of the stale and brings forth the fresh, and it is an endless process. “Yue Culture contains three different and interrelated connotations, namely, the region, the race and the state of Yue. Yue people are all over the world. They are in Guangxi, Guangdong, Taiwan and even in Southeast Asia and North and South America so that various cultures are spread and merged, creating a unique Yue ethnic history in China.” 

A worker of Shaoxing Municipal People’s Government Taiwan Affairs Office said it would enhance communication and cooperation between both sides that the cross-strait experts and scholars looked back history, discussed how to retain Yue Culture as an important part of Chinese culture, cemented friendship and sought cooperation and common development.
