On the morning of the July 12, the State Council Information Office held a special press conference with the theme of “the deepening of the ‘Double Eighth Strategies’ and the new round of reform and opening up” on Zhejiang to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, with 82 reporters from 38 domestic and foreign media agencies attending. Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Che Jun made a keynote speech and answered questions from the reporters. Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Governor Yuan Jiajun answered the questions from the reporters.

During the press release, Che Jun said that Zhejiang is an important place for the Chinese revolutionary red ship to set sail, a pilot place for reform and opening up, and a significant place for the germination of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era. He pointed out that since the founding of the People’s Republic of China 70 years ago, especially since the reform and opening up, Zhejiang has been working hard under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, realizing “three historic transformations” including the transformation of a province with weak economic foundation into a economically-powerful province, the transformation of an absolutely poor province into a comprehensively moderately prosperous province, and the transformation of a province with many issues to be dealt with into a province featuring innovation and entrepreneurship.

Che Jun said that in the 70 years of development in Zhejiang, the period from 2003 to 2019 was an important stage in which Zhejiang went through fundamental transformation and thus showed unprecedented vigor and vitality. In July 2003, on the basis of in-depth investigation and deep thinking, Comrade Xi Jinping, the then secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee, made a major strategic arrangement for the “Double Eighth Strategies”. Later, according to the development of the situation and the changes in the tasks, he made a series of major strategic arrangements, such as a secure Zhejiang, a culturally powerful province, the rule of law in Zhejiang, the construction of an ecological province, and the strengthening of the Party’s ability to govern, thus enriching the connotation of the “Double Eighth Strategies”. After going to work in the Party Central Committee, comrade Xi Jinping also put forward a series of important instructions for the work of Zhejiang, especially on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the implementation of the “Double Eighth Strategies” last year, when General Secretary Xi Jinping made important instructions, eagerly expecting Zhejiang to “making down-to-earth efforts relentlessly, taking the lead to seek new development, and bravely forging ahead by standing in the forefront to show great responsibilities”. These new expectations have further improved, enriched and developed the “Double Eighth Strategies”. The “Double Eighth Strategies” is the exploratory innovation and vivid practice of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics at the provincial level, which is not only the general guideline leading the development in Zhejiang, but also the general strategy promoting various tasks in Zhejiang. Under the guidance of the the “Double Eighth Strategies”, the land of Zhejiang has been making a series of efforts of making breakthroughs in reform, opening up to blaze new trials, and empowering itself with innovation, thus painting an idyllic picture of the beauty of ecology, the charm of humanities, and the glamour of harmony, playing the music of the collaboration between the mountains and the sea featuring coordination between the east area and the west area, urban-rural integration, and balanced development, and setting off on a new voyage on the revolutionary red ship by staying true to our original aspiration, firmly keeping in mind our mission, and making relentless struggles forever. These past 16 years saw the most dynamic economic development, the fastest improvement of the people’s living standard, the the most harmonious and stable overall social situation, the the most obvious amelioration of the ecological environment, and the greatest sense of fulfillment, happiness and security on the part of the people in Zhejiang.

Che Jun said that the earth-shaking changes in the land of Zhejiang have confirmed the great achievements in the 70 years since the founding of the People’s Republic of China from the perspective of a province, vividly interpreting the original aspiration and mission of the Communist Party of China to seek happiness for the Chinese people and to rejuvenate the Chinese nation and giving full expression to the successful practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era in Zhejiang. All the citizens of Zhejiang will be closely united around the Party Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, to make down-to-earth efforts relentlessly, take the lead to seek new development, and bravely forge ahead by standing in the forefront to show great responsibilities, so as strive to further deepen the “Double Eighth Strategies” and initiate a new round of reform and opening up, and thus so as to strive to write a new chapter in Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.

Subsequently, the media reporters struggled to raise a series of questions on how to adhere to enriching and developing of the “Double Eighth Strategies”, how to comprehensively implement the national strategy for the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta, how to strive to promote the development of the private economy to continue to be at the forefront, how to expand opening up at higher level, especially including strengthening the development of import and export trade and actively participating in and active serving the “One Belt and One Road” construction, how to vigorously promote the “No. 1 Project” of the digital economy and the  digital transformation of the government, how to promote the cadres to take responsibilities and make achievements, how to practice in depth the concept of “Fluid waters and green mountains are invaluable assets”, how to deepen the reform of the “Maximum One Visit Service Procedure”, etc. Che Jun and Yuan Jiajun answered these questions with vivid examples and informative data.
