Zhejiang authorities hosted a grand convention at Jiaxing Grand Theatre in Jiaxing, Zhejiang province on July 1 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Numerous high ranking officials of the Zhejiang provincial government attended the convention. Yuan Jiajun, Party secretary of Zhejiang province, delivered a keynote speech, calling on the province's CPC members to make every effort toward achieving the second centenary goal of "building a modern socialist country" and realizing the "Chinese dream of national rejuvenation".
The convention also included awarding ceremonies for the 50-year Party membership medals, as well as for the titles of outstanding Party members, exemplary Party workers, and advanced community-level Party organizations from across the province.
Zhejiang is currently home to a total of 4.2 million Party members, who were affiliated to 240,000 grassroots branches of the CPC.
In 1921, the first CPC National Congress reconvened on a red boat on Nanhu Lake in Jiaxing after it was interrupted by authorities in Shanghai's then French concession. It was aboard this vessel that the 13 delegates announced the official founding of the CPC.
