At least 400 museums will be built in the rural areas of East China's Zhejiang province in 2022, according to a recent guideline released by the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.
The guideline also called for the further development of museums in rural areas through the integration and utilization of historical buildings, facilities and resources.
Cultural relics administrative departments at all levels and public cultural institutions and museums are encouraged to support the building of museums in rural areas and provide guidance on matters such as the hosting of exhibitions, talent training and operations.
In 2021, the Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism published a five-year action plan (2021-25) on the development of the culture and tourism sectors. The plan states that Zhejiang will aim to set up over 1,000 museums in its rural areas.
