Zhuji Economic Development Zone was established in 1992 and was approved to be a provincial development zone in 1994 by the provincial government. It has a total planning area of 21.8 square kilometers, within which are “Hi-tech and Large-scaled Industrial Zone” , “Foreign Investment Zone”, ”Medium-and-Small Size Enterprises Zone” and several “Multi-function Zone”. It is a main base of export-oriented economy, a key area attracting foreign capital and investment and a developing region that features modern industry in medium-sized city’s construction.
After ten years’ development and construction, there have been about 150 enterprises in various lines. Annual industrial sale s income has amounted to more than 4billion yuan and the export has earned 100 million US dollars. The high-tech products and the internationalized marketing characterize this new industrial zone, which has formed an industrial system with machinery, clothing, environment, protection, medicine, electronics, building, material, chemical industry, and textile industry as its leading lines. It is attracting more and more investors who view it as a promised land of prosperity.

  Geographical Superiority
The city of Zhuji is located in the middle by north of Zhejiang Province. On its east-north is Shaoxing county. On its South lies the city of Yiwu. It is bordered on the north by Xiaoshan district of the provincial city Hangzhou. The city is 90 kilometers away from Ningbo port, about 2 hour’s drive;350 kilometers away from Shanghai port, about 3 hour’s drive. It lies in Shanghai Economic Development Area.

  Traffic
The transport is efficient in the city of Zhuji. An one-hour intra-city and to-and-fro neighboring counties transport circle has come into being. It is only 30 minutes’ drive away from Xiaoshan International Airport of Hangzhou. Zhejiang-Jinagxi Railway crosses Zhuji from north to south. Hangzhou-Jinhua-Quzhou highway runs through Zhuji from east to west, leaving 3 exits: Ciwu Exit, Zhuji Exit, and Paitou Exit. The three intra-province roads: Hangzhou-Jinhua road, Shaoxing-Datang road and Zhuji-Dongyang road connect every corner of the region.

  Industry Economy
There are more than 40,000 industrial enterprises, among which 417 are enterprises whose respective annual sales income amounts to RMB 5million yuan. Five backbone industries of machinery manufacture, textile and clothing, building materials, chemical medicine and wrapping materials have taken shape. They take up 80% of the total economic volume.

  Extractive Industry
Zhuji is proved a traditional agricultural city by the saying “Harvest of the crops in Zhuji provides a meal for the whole nation.” Among the total area of 2.318 square kilometers, the arable land is 654,700 mu (43646.67 hectares), the paddy field is 584,400 thousand mu (38960.00 hectares)., and nonirrigated farmland is 70,300 mu (4686.67 hectares). In 2001, the city’s GDP was RMB 17.54 billion yuan, the gross agricultural output volume was RMB 3.1 billion yuan and the annual income per farmer was RMB 5,603 yuan. Ten leading agricultural industries have come into being. They are grain, pearl, life pig, tea, vegetable for export, Chinese torreya nut, Chinese chestnut, high-quality fruit, edible bamboo shoot, mulberry tree leaf.
